What is functional reformer pilates?
Functional reformer pilates is the modern, dynamic branch of pilates: it combines the classical principles with training the movement patterns you use every day. The aim is not only to make you stronger, but to help you move better, hold yourself more steadily, and let your body work naturally and efficiently.
The reformer is a spring loaded resistance system that lets you work the whole body at once while your joints are protected. Every movement is controlled, deliberate and guided by the instructor throughout, which is why this class type suits beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
What does the functional approach mean?
At Zen Den, functional means that the exercises:
- connect the whole body, not just one muscle,
- develop core stability, posture and mobility,
- support everyday movement such as sitting, lifting, bending and walking,
- help prevent injury,
- and visibly shape the body.
Functional reformer pilates strengthens, lengthens, stabilises and mobilises, and it does all of that while the movement itself feels light and continuous. It is a form of training that affects not only how you look but how you work.
